December 8th, 2008 · No Comments

Explosions and a huge fire occurred in the afternoon of Thursday, November 27, in the saturated gas plant and naphtha hydrotreater of the Delek refinery at Tyler Texas . Delek US operates a network of nearly 500 retail gasoline and convenience stores. The fire killed one worker and seriously injured another.

Operator and technician James Dale Sharman, 49, of Tyler died after being pulled from the damaged unit and flown to Dallas for treatment of extensive burns. Jim Hammett, 52, was admitted to  Parkland Hospital in Dallas. He was suffering from burns over about 30 percent of his body

The Delek refinery normally processes 60,000 barrels of oil per day and employs about 240 persons. Early assessment indicates that the vast majority of Tyler’s critical refining units were not impacted by the fire. The Tyler Delek refinery will remain closed until officials determine the cause of the explosion and fire.

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - A man is suing after an explosion destroyed his rented home and leveled a church.  The lawsuit is being filed against Dorner Incorporated and WE Energies for $1 million each.

In April 2008 a ruptured gas pipe triggered an explosion that, according to the plaintiff, cost him and his family a lot of valuable heirlooms.  The man claims that Dorner caused the gas pipe to erupt while digging during its highway reconstruction project.

Dorner was fined $4,200 after the explosion for exposing its employees to underground pipes, and anot $3,00 for not ordering its workers out of the area after natural gas was detected.

The plaintiff said he did get an insurance settlement for his material losses, but claims that nothing has covered the pain the explosion has caused him and his family.
