An explosion took place at a Des Moines chemical plant.
Around lunchtime Monday, Barton Solvents, a wholesale industrial chemical supplier, exploded into a blaze of fire and black smoke.
Large barrels full of a variety of chemicals have literally been shooting out of the building.
There were also several train cars full of chemicals parked nearby, making for a volatile situation.
Surrounding businesses were evacuated and many of the area’s major roads, including parts of I-80 shut down. They have since reopened.
Officials think the fire started while crews were loading solvents into barrels.
