An explosion at a chemical plant in northern Wisconsin this week left 2 workers hospitalized and in serious condition. Cortee Corp. employees Aaron Merchant and Cory LaBonte, who worked at the company’s plant in Spooner, WI, suffered severe burns from Tuesday’s explosion and subsequent fire. Merchant was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, LaBonte to Miller-Dwan Medical Center in Duluth. As of Wednesday, LaBonte was in an induced coma after undergoing surgery for the second- and third-degree burns covering 80% of his body.
The plant produces aerosols and paint solvents. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
