A fire broke out at Jacam Chemicals plant in Sterling, Kansas, on March 14, at 5 30 AM. The fire caused explosions in the plant.
Building number 5 of the plant, which stores empty 55 gallon drums, caught fire. The fire was put out by firemen. These drums, though empty, had a build up of vapors.
The cause of the fire is said to be an electrical short circuit in building 5. This short circuit caused sparking which led to a fire in the solvents cabinet. This fire caused the drums to heat and they started bursting. About one-fourth of the eastern side of the building was damaged by the fire. The firewalls separating the buildings into segments prevented the fire from spreading.
As a precaution one home was evacuated. No one was injured or hurt in this accident. To learn more, contact the Texas Explosion Lawyers at Williams Kherkher.
