Fire at Michigan Parts Manufacturer for Harley-Davidson

April 1st, 2008 · No Comments

On the morning of March 18, a fire broke out at the Port City Industrial Plant in Muskegon, Michigan, at a facility that polishes aluminum used for Harley-Davidson parts.

The plant’s dust collector had caught fire and had to be replaced. The device is located outside the plant. The rest of the equipment as well as the building is fine. The reason why this dust collector malfunctioned and caught fire was not established.

The plant generates heavy amounts of dust as the employees buff, polish and smooth out steel and aluminium used for Harley-Davidson parts.

In this incident, no injuries or fatalities were reported. There were three men working at the time of the fire. The damaged caused by the fire is estimated to be around $120,000 as the dust collector has to be replaced.
