In the ninth week of trial, the last four plaintiffs in a recent civil suit against BP have reached a settlement. The suit was regarding the 2005 explosion at the BP refinery in Texas City that killed 15 people and injured several others.
The amount of the settlement was undisclosed. BP earmarked $2.1 billion to handle court costs and settlement expenses for the death and injuries suffered by its employees.
The last trial date for the explosion related litigation has been set for September. Attorneys believe only two cases will go to trial. All other suits have settled before a jury could deliberate. Damages suffered by the employees include lost limbs and post traumatic stress disorder.
