BP has recently been fined a record amount for an explosion that took place at a Texas City refinery in 2005. The fine that was imposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was a record amount that totaled nearly $87 million dollars.
The fine came after one of the worst modern day industrial accidents in American history. The accident occurred at a Texas City oil refinery owned by BP. The accident started after a tank had been over-filled with volatile chemicals and ignited. The accident resulted in 15 workers losing their lives, and over 170 people injured in the accident.
